Shinde, PC cheated Telangana, book them: AP court

A court in Andhra Pradesh's Rangareddy district on Monday directed the police to register a case of cheating against Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and Finance Minister P Chidambaram for going back on the government's promise to create a separate Telangana state.

The court order came on a petition seeking registration of case against Shinde and his predecessor Chidambaram under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code. It asked the LB Nagar Police to register a case of cheating.

The petitioner had accused Shinde and Chidambaram of cheating people of Telangana region by going back on their promises to announce the government's decision on the controversial statehood issue.

Chidambaram headed the home ministry when the Centre had on December 9, 2009 announced that the steps for formation of Telangana would be initiated.
