Vicky Nanjappa reports from Bangalore: Karnataka Governor H R Bharadwaj said on Friday that he will ask the state government to prove its majority on the floor of the House.

He informed the media that he has directed his office to check with the officials in the assembly about the position and then tell Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar to prove his majority.

The action comes following the decision of 14 rebels, loyalists of former CM Yeddyurappa, who have decided to resign as MLAs from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. They had attempted to resign but had to return as the speaker was not available. They then approached the governor and also said if the speaker does not return they would file a habeas corpus petition in court.

The speaker has however assured that he would return to office on January 28th.

Meanwhile, the rebel MLAs sent their resignations to the speaker via email.
