The supreme court of Canada has dismissed a plea of Inderjit Singh Reyat, the only man convicted in connection with the Kanishka bombing, seeking its permission to file appeal against his nine-year sentence for perjury.

Reyat was the only person convicted in the June 23, 1985. bombing that killed 329 people on Air India Flight 182.

The Court dismissed Reyat's application for leave to appeal without costs, the court said on its website.

The Court, however, granted his motion for an extension of time to serve and file the application for leave to appeal, the release said.

While 329 people were killed on the Air India flight, a second bomb had exploded prematurely that same day, killing two baggage handlers at Tokyo's Narita Airport.
