Shrinking Government, Ballooning Costs

A report on IndiaSpend by Sourjya Bhowmick finds that while the central government has spent around Rs 3,64,613 crore ($68 billion) on 2.5 million employees between 2006 and 2011, the clincher is that the total number of government employees has actually come down from 2.8 million in 2005-06 to 2.5 million in 2009-10!
