It's official: Rahul to lead Congress in 2014 elections
January 19, 2013  21:01
After months of anticipation and clamour within the Congress, Rahul Gandhi has been appointed as the Vice President, as the party gets battle-ready for Lok Sabha elections 2014.

The appointment was endorsed at the Congress' highest decision-making body, its working committee or the CWC, which met this evening at the end of a two-day brainstorming session to devise the party's strategy for the next elections. It formally places Mr Gandhi as the party's number 2 after his mother and Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

He has already been given charge of the party's election campaign strategy. Defence Minister AK Antony moved the proposal at the CWC which received unanimous endorsement.
