India and Pakistan will hold a meeting at 1 pm at Chakan da Bagh on the Line of Control in Kashmir's Poonch district today. The meeting will be led by the brigadiers of both sides. So, what is a flag meeting? Rediff.com's Vicky Nanjappa explains.

Air Marshal B K Pandey explains: A flag meeting is basically a meeting that is held at the border or on the Line of Control by the commanders on both sides. A flag meeting could be held at the brigadier level in smaller issues and in the larger context it could also be held on the general level. In this case it is at the brigadier level.

At the specified time both the commanders of the area come closer to the border with their respective escorts. One person holds up the flag of the respective nation in order to establish the identity.
