Women must be escorted by male kin, reiterates Azmi

Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi today he will not apologise for declaring that women must not go out at night unless escorted by a husband, father or brother, reports NDTV.

Azmi's remarks yesterday created a storm.

His son, Farhan Azmi, a restaurateur, later apologied for the comments.

But, Azmi today said he is not sorry, and that while his son may disagree with his opinion, "everyone has a right to air their views in a democracy."
