January 09, 2013  01:10

The US is not taking any sides in Iraq's domestic politics, a state department official said today, stressing that Washington's role has been to encourage various Iraqi stakeholders to talk to each other.

"We are not taking a side in any of these internal difficulties inside Iraq," state department spokesperson Victoria Nuland told reporters.

"We want to see the Iraqi stakeholders sitting down, talking, meeting, discussing, finding constitutional solutions to the various grievances on all of these issues. Our role has simply been to try to encourage the various stakeholders to talk to each other," she said.
