Cold wave grips Saurashtra and Kutch; 3 perish

Two labourers were killed when the fire they lit to keep themselves warm from the biting cold spread and an elderly man died due to the chilly conditions which gripped Saurashtra and Kutch region.

The temperature dipped below seven degrees Celsius in the region today. Two labourers were charred and seven others sustained burn injuries in Gandhidham town of Kutch district due to the fire lit to warm themselves, the police said.

The nine labourers had sprinkled some inflammable chemical last night after which the fire suddenly increased in intensity.

Laxman Yadav and Shambhu Shaku suffered severe burn injuries and later succumbed in a nearby hospital while the seven others were admitted to hospital.
