Parliamentary panel slams Delhi police

A Pariamentary committee on empowerment of women today slammed the Delhi police for its 'poor image' among the people and asked it to list out steps to improve the safety of women in the state.

Thecommittee had summoned Home Secretary R K Singh and Delhi police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar in the wake of the gruesome gangrape of a 23-year-old women who later died.

Sources said the Committee headed by Congress MP Ratna Singh directed the city police to forward all pending proposals regarding safety of women that they had prepared but not yet implemented.

The panel also said it would monitor on a regular basis the progress in implementation of the proposals. During the course of the meeting, Neeraj Kumar outlined the steps taken by the Delhi police to improve the safety of women.
