Get Hagel to withdraw his anti-India remarks, says BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday termed the new US defense secretary Chuck Hagel's alleged remark that India has over the years ''financed problems'' for Pakistan, to be outlandish, bizarre and baseless, and asked the UPA government to "ensure the former retracts his statement, modifies it and corrects it."

"A statement has been made by Hagel, who is to be sworn-in as the defense secretary of the US, that India has created and financed problems in Pakistan. This statement has been made by no less than a person who is to be sworn in as the defense secretary, as good as the defence minister of America. I personally believe and the BJP believes that it's an outlandish remark, it's a bizarre remark and it's a baseless remark," said BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy.

"But having said that, we are amused that a nation who harboured Osama bin Laden responsible for killing more than 5,000 Americans in the backyard of a Pakistan's military area is being protected by the person who is to be sworn in as the defense secretary of the US," he added.
