Two-day Bharat Bandh begins

Impact of the 48-hour Bharat Bandh called by trade unions in different parts of the country.  

Delhi: Transport has been the first casualty of the strike in Delhi. Passengers arriving at New Delhi railway station were stranded as taxis and auto-rickshaws either refused them or overcharged. One passenger said an autorickshaw driver demanded Rs. 2000 for a ride. Another driver was thrashed by his colleagues for agreeing to take a passenger.

Mumbai: At Linking Road and Turner Road in Bandra west, north-west Mumbai, there was visibly no bandh. Autorickshaws, taxis and BEST buses were plying as usual, shops were beginning to open for the day, and office-goers could be seen rushing about on the roads. 

Bangalore: Schools, colleges and banks will remain shut.

Andhra Pradesh: Autorickshaws, buses are off roads. The Railways are expected to function normally

Kerala: The 48-hour nationwide strike called by central trade unions hit normal life across Kerala with workers from varied sectors, including transport and banking, staying away from work to protest theUPA government's economic and labour policies.Early reports said buses and taxis were off the roads and shops and restaurants remained closed. 

West Bengal: There was little impact of thetwo-day strike called by central trade unions on the first daytoday in West Bengal with situation being normal and peacefulacross the state.Shops and markets were mostly open in the metropolis. Private buses and taxis were less, though state buses were present in large number on the roads, police sources said.
