Mumbai may stay normal during Bharat bandh
February 20, 2013  08:15
Mumbaikars who were fearing that the city would be crippled during the Bharat bandh on Wednesday and Thursday can rest easy. Union leader Sharad Rao, normally known for holding Mumbai to ransom with his strikes, has called off the bandh in the city and the rest of Maharashtra.

According to sources, it was the Shiv Sena that was instrumental in "sabotaging" Rao's plans '"it did this by winning over the support of several key members of the state-level federation of unions and leaving Rao isolated in the process.

Mumbaikars, therefore, are unlikely to face any kind of inconvenience on these two days. Public transport'"rickshaws, taxis, BEST buses, state buses and trains'"will ply normally although buses will have grills on their windows as a precautionary measure. It will also be business as usual for the BMC, hawkers and shopkeepers.
