What Rajapaksa could have done, but didn't

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa had been universally hailed for ending the decades long and bloody civil war in his country.

Rajapaksa could have seized this opportunity to resolve the ethnic tension that had almost torn the island nation apart. Instead, the steps taken by the government led by him have worsened the simmering rage among the minority Tamil population.
