Suspected Maoists killed a journalist whose body was found today morning, by slitting his throat, on suspicion that he was a police informer, in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, the police said.

The police also suspect the involvement of some villagers in the incident as the 45-year-old journalist, Nemi Chand Jain, had an argument with some people of the area a few days ago.

"He was killed by suspected Maoists," superintendent of police Abhishek Shandilya said. "Jain's bloodstained body was found on the road in Leda village of the area, around four kilometres away from Tongpal village," he added.

Jain, who worked for the region's Hindi dailies Haribhoomi and Dainik Bhaskar, had gone to the weekly market in Nama village yesterday but he did not return, his relatives said.
