Assam boils: Eight killed on eve of Panchayat polls

Eight persons were killed in police firing in trouble-torn Goalpara district of Assam and indefinite curfew was imposed in Krishnai police station area after violence erupted during panchayat polls today.

Arson was also reported from Kamrup (Rural) district during the final phase of panchayat polls. A mob of 400 men and women armed with iron rods, axes, machetes and sticks attacked a polling station at Ambari Kathalmari school, the police said. Read
