Afzal Guru hanging, 29 years after Maqbool Butt's execution

Afzal Guru's execution comes almost 29 years to the day after the Indira Gandhi government hanged Maqbool Bhat, the founder of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front in Tihar jail on February 11, 1984. Separatists in the Kashmir valley had already called for a bandh on Monday, February 11, to mark Butt's death.
