Kamal Haasan's spy-thriller Vishwaroopam will finally release in theatres across Tamil Nadu today.

Last week, the state government brokered a compromise with leaders of several Muslim groups who were offended by the portrayal of their community in the Rs 95-crore film. The truce was reached after the actor-producer agreed to edit out the audio for seven scenes.

Tamil Nadu government had banned the film on January 22, two days before its scheduled release in 524 theatres.

A judge of the Madras High Court who said that the ban should be lifted was over-ruled by two others the next day.

Defending her government's decision Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said the ban was necessary to maintain law and order, but offered that her government would help mediate negotiations between Muslim groups and the actor.

After six hours of talks on Saturday, actor Kamal Haasan, who insists that his movie is "Muslim-friendly", agreed that the audio would be removed in seven contentious scenes. He also agreed to withdraw a petition in the Madras high court challenging the government's ban.
