Sujata Singh, India's ambassador to Germany, is Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai's likely successor when he retires in July.

She will be the third lady ForSec, after Chokila Iyer and Nirupama Rao.

Married to the gentle Ambassador Sanjay Singh, currently Secretary, East, at the ministry of external affairs, Singh is the daughter of TV Rajeshwar, the former Intelligence Bureau director and ex-governor of Uttar Pradesh.

A Tamil Nadu native, Singh will be the fourth consecutive South Indian ForSec -- after Shiv Shankar Menon, the current National Security Advisor, Nirupama Rao, currently India's Ambassador to the United States, and Ranjan Mathai, who are all Malayalis.
