- JUST IN: The case against senior Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade is not being "withdrawn', US sources tell PTI.
- The US government intends to proceed with the prosecution of Khobragade, sources add.
- The deadline for indictment of Khobragade is January 13, the sources say.
- However, the sources concede that If Khobragade gets UN immunity she cannot be prosecuted or brought to court for the period of immunity, PTI reports.
- But if she returns to India and then comes back to the US on a visit, the charges will stand and she could face arrest, the sources say.
- There is no nefarious motive for arresting Khobragade, the sources add.
- Prosecutors are continuing to gather more evidence before indictment is filed. The indicment will be brought, sources inform.
- There is no question of apology to India; everything in the case has been done by the book, sources note.
