Mallika Sarabhai on clean chit for Modi in riots: Courts not above politics
December 27, 2013  14:35
Activist Mallika Sarabhai questions the Ahmedabad court's clean chit to Narendra Modi in the Gujarat riots. She tells NDTV that courts in India were not above politics and it was silly to have expected anything but a clean chit for Modi. Courts may not find evidence, but Modi should ask his conscience.

She said everyone in Gujarat was terrified of Modi's vengeance.

A metropolitan court yesterday rejected the protest petition filed by Zakia Jafri, wife of former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri, against the clean chit given to him and others by the Special Investigation Team in the 2002 Gujarat riots.

Ehsan Jafri, a former Congress MP, was among the 68 people killed in the Gulbarg society massacre here during the post-Godhra riots. Zakia had filed a protest petition on April 15, this year objecting to the Supreme Court-appointed SIT's closure report absolving Modi of complicity in the conspiracy behind the carnage.
