Live! Clean chit for Narendra Modi in 2002 Godhra riots
December 26, 2013  16:24
A metropolitan magistrate's court has pronounced the much-awaited verdict on Zakia Jafri's protest petition against the closure report filed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) giving a clean chit to chief minister and BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in the 2002 Godhra and post-Godhra riot cases.

The court has, quite expectedly, given Modi a clean chit.

The case was initially filed against Modi and 61 politicians, bureaucrats, police officers and others, but the list of accused is now down to 56, all of whom have been accused of omission or commission during the riots.

Jafri's husband and Congress ex-MP Ahsan Jafri, was among the 68 people killed by a mob in Gulberg Society on February 28, 2002. The Supreme Court appointed an SIT under former CBI director RK Raghavan to conduct a preliminary inquiry. The SIT submitted a report in 2011 clearing Modi of all the charges.
