Convict in Beant Singh assassination released on bail after 18 yrs

Gurmeet Singh, a Khalistani terrorist convicted for the assassination of Punjab chief minister Beant Singh in 1995, has been released on parole for 28 days.

Gurmeet, who has been serving a life term, has been granted parole for the first time in 18 years.

Gurmeet had applied for parole along with two fellow convicts in the murder case -- Lakhwinder Singh and Shamsher Singh. 

Lakhwinder and Shamsher, who have also been granted parole, are expected to be released later this week from Burail jail.
