Sheela Bhatt sent us this photograph of Mumbai's ubiquitous BEST buses sporting advertisements for the BJP mascot Narendra Modi's Maha Garjana rally on Sunday in the city.

The Maharashtra capital is no stranger to political rallies, but this is the first time one has seen the city's popular red buses serving as a mobile hoarding for a political meeting.

Despite the city's nightmarish traffic conditions, BEST buses remain popular among a cross-section of citizens, and are said to transport a few lakh passengers every day, apart from criss-crossing the metropolis.

The state government, run by the Congress-NCP, may not approve of such use of state-run BEST buses, but the Bombay municipal corporation, under whose jurisdiction BEST falls, is controlled by the Shiv Sena-BJP combine.
