Telangana Bill tabled in AP Assembly amid din

The draft Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill-2013, that provides for creation of a new state of Telangana, was finally tabled before the legislative Assembly today amid uproar by legislators favouring and opposing it.

On the instructions of Speaker Nadendla Manohar, Legislature Secretary S Raja Sadaram laid copies of the draft Bill on the table of the House and read out the reference of President Pranab Mukherjee sent to the state on December 12.

While legislators from Telangana cheered the tabling of the Bill, those from coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions tore the copies in protest and anger. The President had referred the Bill to the state Legislature for expressing its views by January 23. The Bill was tabled under Article 3 of the Constitution.
