Over 53 world leaders to attend Nelson Mandela's memorial

At least 53 heads of state and government, including President Pranab Mukherjee, will attend the memorial event for peace icon Nelson Mandela, making it one of the largest such gatherings in generations.

There has been "unprecedented interest" to attend the statesman's funeral, South African Foreign Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane told a news conference.

The dignitaries who have confirmed attendance at upcoming memorial events include US President Barack Obama, Brazilian leader Dilma Rousseff, French President Francois Hollande and British Prime Minister David Cameron.
