Top Congress sources have hinted at a "major announcement" soon, revealing that the party was taking the defeat seriously.

But party leaders did their best to deflect questions that pitted Narendra Modi against Rahul Gandhi, attributing their poor showing to factors ranging from disunity to the inability to read the popular pulse.

All Congress leaders, junior or senior, said that the Congress was not a one man show, but a party which believed in collective defeat and collective failure. -- NDTV
