Mandela a true Gandhian, it's as much India's loss: PM

Nelson Mandela, South Africa's anti-apartheid hero, died on Thursday at his Johannesburg home at 95. "A giant among men has passed away. This is as much India's loss as South Africa's. He was a true Gandhian," said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Mandela was only the second non-Indian to be given the Bharat Ratna or "jewel of India", the country's highest civilian award. His connection with India was deep.
