Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday listed out the challenges before the country and warned against "despairing" for democracy. At the Hindustan Times summit, the PM said, that revolution of rising expectations is underway and I welcome it.

Speaking on terror and terrorism, the PM said that, creating communal division is the ultimate objective of terrorism. Terror ideologues have been defeated in generating communal strife.

The PM said the Congress was going to the elections with a spirit of self confidence. That should not be mistaken whatever is the outcome of Assembly polls.

As a political party we can't underestimate the power of the opposition to unsettle the ship of the state, the PM said on the challenge posed by Narendra Modi.

"I am one of those who takes very seriously our opponent. There is no room for complacency," he said.

The Communal Violence Bill is not a vote-catching gimmick. The Bill, if passed by Parliament, will help control aberrations created by communal strife, he said.
