MP minister comes to defence of Asaram Bapu

Madhya Pradesh Industries Minister Kailash Vijaywargia today alleged the charge of sexual assault against Asaram Bapu could be "politically motivated" as he has been critical of the top Congress leadership.

"Asaram is a saint. He openly speaks against Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi...It might be possible that the charges against him is a part of a political conspiracy by Congress," Vijaywargiya told reporters.

"We have full sympathies with the girl but it should be probed whether allegations against Asaram are part of any political conspiracy or not," the minister said. He said no one has the right to tarnish Asaram's image until the latter is proved guilty.

On rumours that BJP is providing asylum to Asaram, Vijaywargia said, "In Madhya Pradesh, the rule of law prevails and the state would extend full support to any state's police if required."
