Former Army Chief General V K Singh has ruled out contesting the forthcoming general elections next year.

Singh, while refuting media reports about him possibly contesting polls on a BJP ticket from Raibareli, said that the question of contesting under political parties does not arise.

Singh, who is currently in the US accompanying anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare, said that he is working towards putting up a people's candidate in the next Lok Sabha elections.

He dismissed the media reports in a statement given to PTI by his spokesperson, describing them as "wrong and malicious".

Political parties are against the basic spirit of the constitution, he said.
