SC clears way for Delhi gang-rape verdict

Supreme Court Thursday cleared the way for a juvenile court to give a verdict on the teenager accused of participating in the gang rape of a woman on a bus in Delhi in December.

The juvenile court has delayed giving a verdict on four occasions as it awaited a decision from the Supreme Court on a petition calling for a review of the juvenile law.The petition, filed by opposition leader Subramanian Swamy, said the mental and intellectual maturity of juveniles, not just their age, should be taken into account for criminal proceedings.
