Wikileaks row: US soldier Bradley Manning gets 35-yr jail term
August 21, 2013  20:07
Bradley Manning, the United States army soldier who leaked a massive trove of secret US government files to WikiLeaks, has been sentenced to 35 years in prison by a court in Fort Meade.

Manning will also be dishonourably discharged from the army. He will be eligible for parole only after serving at least one-third of his sentence.

During the trial, the prosecution had asked for a 60-year jail term for Manning, claiming that such a sentence will set an example for other whistle-blowers.

Manning, 25, has already apologised for his actions, saying the results had been "unexpected".
