Food bill: Congress seeks Mulayam's help again
August 19, 2013  20:13
From a correspondent in Delhi: Union Food Minister KV Thomas on Monday evening reached SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's residence to seek the latter's help to pass the Food Security Bill in Parliament.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel reportedly got the appointment for Thomas.

Gandhi is expected to speak about the bill at 12.15 pm in Parliament on Tuesday.

If Mulayam Singh agrees to support the bill, Thomas will then approach TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and urge him to not allow his MPs to disrupt the House.

The Congress is keen to pass the flagship bill on Tuesday -- August 20 -- which also happens to be late prime minister Rajiv Gandhi's birthday.
