Rupee weakens to 61.62, nears record low

NDTV reports: The Indian rupee weakened to 61.62 today despite the government announcing several measures yesterdayvto curtail a record current account deficit.

Finance Minister Chidambaram sought to soothe nerves about India's external finances by promising to contain the current account deficit at 3.8 per cent of gross domestic product this fiscal year.
