Zubin Mehta to conduct concert in Kashmir

Among the few unfulfilled ambitions left to celebrated Mumbai-born conductor Zubin Mehta is to perform in India's conflict riven Kashmir Valley. On Wednesday, an announcement by a provincial government official signalled that this dream may soon come true.

 

The troubled state's tourism minister Ghulam Ahmad Mir told local reporters on Wednesday that Mehta will be conducting a concert next month on the picturesque banks of the Dal Lake in Srinagar in a garden created by a Mughal emperor. The idea of a western classical music concert in Kashmir took root last year when Mehta visited Delhi.
