Sonia writes to PM over IAS officer's suspension

Congress President Sonia Gandhi has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh about UP IAS officer Durga Nagpal's controversial suspension.

"We must ensure that the officer is not unfairly treated. The implementation machinery must see that the conditions are conducive to the delivery of public services without fear or favour. There is widespread concern as an officer in the course of public duty was seen to be standing up against vested interests engaging in illegal activities. There is a need to assess if adequate safeguards are in place to protect executive functionaries working beyond the average call of duty to uphold the rule of law," Gandhi told PM.
