A correspondent from Delhi reports: Reports emerging in the wake of the Union cabinet meeting held on Friday indicate that many ministers are shying away from contesting the Lok Sabha polls.

Two Union ministers and three Members of Parliament from Andhra Pradesh and one Union minister and two MPs from Tamil Nadu have conveyed to the war room of the All India Congress Committee that due to their advanced age, they are opting out of the Lok Sabha polls.

One Union minister is reportedly apprehensive about losing his security deposit after the DMK walked out of the UPA.

Ageing MPs and ministers from Karnataka are expected to follow suit after the state assembly election.

The Union ministers are hopeful about being granted a Rajya Sabha seat, if Congress President Sonia Gandhi or Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi want them to remain in Parliament.
