Sniffer dogs and a bomb disposal squad are at the site in Malleshwaram, just 100 m away from the BJP's office in Bangalore.

Rediff.com's Vicky Nanjappa
reports gives us these startling updates. The Karnataka State Intelligence unit had issued an alert four days ago telling the police to step up security in all parts of Karnataka.

The alert made specific mention of Bangalore and said that due to the ongoing political process in the state, disruptive elements would try and cause havoc.

Although the alert was general in nature and not Grade A intelligence, police sources said that they had done their best to beef-up security. Following the terror alert, presence of policemen outside all party offices in Bangalore have been upped.

The police believe there are a lot of disgruntled elements who have not got tickets to contest the upcoming state elections on May 5 and they are capable of causing trouble.

The police however say that it is too early to point a finger at anyone. It could be the handiwork of a small terror group or could well be a political issue. Investigations are on.

Right now, a forensics team is at the site.
