Five killed in Kharan district of Balochistan, Pak

Emergency has been declared in Saravan in Iran. Casualties from the earthquake now also being reported in Balochistan, Pakistan, estimated to be five.

Hundreds of people rushed out of their offices and homes in panic today after an earthquake hit the Iran-Pakistan border had ripples felt in Pakistan's biggest city and in cities across the Sindh and Baluchistan provinces. The epicentre of the earthquake was at the Pakistan-Iran border and measured 7.8 on the Richter scale, the Met office reported.

The worst affected areas, apparently, were Clifton, near the Arabian coastal area, and the densely populated Gulistan-e-Jauhar area where there are hundreds of high-rise buildings.

The people came out of their apartments as soon as the jolts were felt around 3.46 pm local time that lasted for around 15 seconds.
