Indian soldier's body arrives from Sudan

The body of Havildar Bharat Sasmal, who was killed in an ambush in South Sudan on Tuesday while serving in the United Nations peacekeeping mission, was brought in Kolkata on Thursday.

Defence sources said that Havildar Sasmal was among the five soldiers whose convoy was ambushed in Jonglei region of South Sudan on April 9.

Five Indian Army personnel, including a Lt Colonel were killed and four injured during a UN peacekeeping mission when their 32-member convoy was attacked. Havildar Sasmal from 9 mechanised Infantry hailed from Patospur village in Howrah district. He is survived by his mother, wife, a nine-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son.
