Two shops, a Maruti van, a Piaggio car, four motorcycles and two cycles were torched in the flare-up, according to a police officer.

"People were sprinkling plastic bags filled with gulal (colour). However, when the Ganesh idol immersion procession reached a place of worship, some of the gulal fell on its wall, angering the people," he said.
