Suburban rail traffic on Thane-Mumbai section hit by protest

An irate mob of thousands of people, protesting against planned demolition of a slum on the land belonging to Mafatlal Engineering company, disrupted the suburban train services on Thane-Mumbai section of Central Railway for at leat two hours this morning.
Protesters descended on the tracks at Kalwa, near here, led by NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad around 7 in the morning. Shiv Sena MLAs Eknath Shinde and Pratap Sarnaik too joined in the protest later. Police could clear the tracks only after over two hours.
