Demand for cancellation of 142 coal blocks illogical
September 03, 2012  16:59
Chidambaram says the demand for cancellation of all 142 coal blocks is illogical and said a debate on the allocation has to take place in Parliament. "The government is ready for debate even tomorrow," said Chidambaram adding that demand for an enquiry is a bit delayed since the CBI is conducting an enquiry anyway. He said if the policy is flawed, then it is flawed since 1993. "Why take 2004 as a cutoff period," asked the finance minister. So, net net, the government rules out immediate cancellation of coal block allocations.
