Mirwaiz demands demilitarisation, repeal of AFSPA

Moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today demanded repeal of AFSPA, the Public Safety Act and the Disturbed Areas Act in Jammu and Kashmir, saying these laws gave unbridled powers to security forces. 

The separatist leader told a delegation of the Centre for Policy Analysis (CPA) that his amalgam had given certain recommendations to the Central government for creating a conducive atmosphere prior to resolution of the Kashmir issue. The recommendations included revocation of all harsh laws, demilitarization and release of all political prisoners, a Hurriyat spokesman said.
