Cyclone Nilam: Crew members of grounded ship feared missing

Cyclonic storm Nilam crossed Chennai and made landfall at Mahaballipuram, south of the Tamil Nadu capital at about 4.30 pm today. Even though no major damage has been reported so far, crew members of a ship that had run aground are feared missing.

The private ship, Ahila, had run aground earlier owing to strong winds. As the cyclone made landfall, windspeed went up to about 100 km per hour. Windspeed in Mahabalipuram is still about 80-84 km per hour.
