BBC reports: For the last few hours, Sandy has been packing winds with sustained maximum speeds of 90mph (150km/h) and has been moving north-west at 28mph (44km/h).

A cluster of states along the eastern seaboard -- from North Carolina to Massachusetts -- have been impacted.

Along the coast, up to 12ft (3.7m) of storm surge and pounding waves has caused widespread flooding.
