Just in: RSS functionaries meet in Nagpur to decide BJP president Nitin Gadkari's fate. The RSS says that Gadkari is being targetted and will "stand by him."

This comes two days after BJP patriarch LK Advani backed him. The RSS top brass firmed up that line after a series of confabulations with Gadkari.

As other BJP leaders watched charges flying thick and fast against the party chief, RSS leaders led by Mohan Bhagwat and Bhaiyya Joshi apparently advised Gadkari to hold on.

On his part, he too would rather dig in his heels, put up a "brave front" to fend off charges against him till any official probe actually established his guilt. Gadkari stayed put in Nagpur for an extra day, cancelling his appointments in Delhi, talking to RSS heads at length since Wednesday night. More
