Picasso and Monets are stolen in Netherlands

With impeccable timing and taste, thieves on Tuesday morning plundered a Rotterdam gallery that was celebrating its 20th birthday and made away with seven borrowed masterpieces that included artworks by Picasso, Monet, Gauguin, and Matisse as well as Lucian Freud's haunting portrait "Woman with Eyes Closed.' 

The Kunsthal '" which was exhibiting a private collection owned by the Triton Foundation '" closed the gallery to the public, but the bare spaces on its walls were visible from its windows in the modern building between Rotterdam's museum park and busy Maasboulevard.
