22:43   J&K panchayat polls postponed
The Jammu and Kashmir government this evening decided to postpone the general elections of chairmen of block development councils by bringing forth an ordinance, reports rediff.com's Mukhtar Ahmad.

"The panchayat elections were held in 2011 which was a historic milestone in the democratic history of the state after more than three decades. The government today said it is not in favour of hiking diesel price in the immediate future even as the current retail rate is nearly Rs 12 per litre lower than its actual cost.

19:02   Jet fuel prices cut by 3 per cent
Jet fuel prices were on Monday cut by 3 per cent on back of rising rupee, the second reduction in rates this month that will ease burden on cash-strapped airlines.

Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) price at T3 terminal in Delhi was cut by Rs 2,117 per kilolitre (kl), or 3 per cent, to Rs 68,399 per kl with effect from midnight tonight, according to Indian Oil Corp, the nation's largest fuel retailer.

The reduction, which comes on back of a steep 4.3 per cent (Rs 3194.72 per kl) cut in rates effected from October 1, was possible as rupee firmed up against the US dollar making and cheaper international oil.

Prior to these cuts, ATF price were hiked on five occasions since July.

In Mumbai, jet fuel will cost Rs 68,731 per kl as against Rs 70,949.97 currently.

Rates at different airports vary because of differential in local sales tax or VAT.

16:52   Economics prize NOT technically a Nobel
The Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences was the last of the 2012 Nobel awards to be announced, reports AP.

It's not technically a Nobel Prize, because unlike the five other awards it wasn't established in the will of Alfred Nobel, a Swedish industrialist also known for inventing dynamite.

The economics prize was created by the Swedish central bank in Nobel's memory in 1968, and has been handed out with the other prizes ever since. Each award is worth 8 million Swedish kronor, or about $1.2 million.

"They (Kejriwal and his Team) cast doubts on everything. They have no trust in any court, any probe agency. The country is not made by targeting individuals. UP government already ordered a probe but you say that you don't trust a government probe. Then what will you do?", Yadav asked.
